Dr. Phil McGraw, the famed self help guru has taken his no-nonsense approach to the world of weight loss. His plan is called, "The Ultimate Weight Solution: The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom". His program is one of the better weight loss-related products on the market. Most others are products that are created purely to make money and have very little chance of leading to long-term and sustainable weight loss. Dr. Phil focuses on the reality of lifestyle change and asks his readers to accept this reality and take the fundamental steps to change their lives forever. The program does not promise easy or fast weight loss, nor does it make overly optimistic claims. The program describes why dieting doesn’t work, the roles that family and the media play in how and what we eat and the differences in men and women when it comes to weight.

The main problem with relying on the expertiece and motivation of a "diet guru" is that they are attempting to supply you with that motivation. Most of us have common sense. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, start eating healthy and force yourself to exercise daily. If you can't do that on your own, it is unlikely some guru is going to motivate you to do so in the long-term.

Dr. Phil has done a curious thing with his weight loss program recently, by pushing supplements and other add-on products to the basics of his "diet." Stick to his no-nonsense books and forget about all the rest of what he is trying to sell you.
