Flenfluramine / Phentermine (Fen-Phen) Review
Review At A Glance
Phentermine has been used in the USA to treat obesity since at least 1961 and was widely used after 1992 in combination with fenfluramine. Like all appetite suppressants, fen-phen has significant side effects, namely high blood pressure in the lungs, pulmonary hypertension and valvcular heart disease. It focuses on short-term weight-loss, instead of lifestyle change.
How Does It Work?
Fenfluramine raises brain levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger that helps you feel full. Phentermine stimulates your metabolism.
Who Is It Good For?
Currently not recommended due to FDA rulings and warnings, triggered by evidence presented in 1997 by drug researcher Richard J. Wurtman. Note also that so-called Herbal Phentermine traditionally includes ma huang, a stimulant containing ephedra - also currently banned by the FDA for diet/athletic purposes.
